Literacy

It is crazy to me how bad literacy levels are these days. I’m in college, but I look at people around me and people who are younger than me and it’s actually scary how illiterate people are. I don’t think people realize how important it is to be literate and what sort of things are affected by literacy. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen people get angry over something that didn’t make any sense. It was obvious they completely missed the point of whatever and they just go off of whatever they interpret as the topic. I’m not trying to get into details so I’m aware this might sound confusing, but my point is that I think it’s really scary how illiterate my generation and the next are because people will get angry and start problems without realizing they’ve completely misunderstood something. And these days, when people get angry, they can’t be calmed down. Their mind is made up and that’s final. College is suppose to be a place we learn and part of that learning is hearing different perspectives including those we don’t necessarily agree with and having the opportunities to tune our perspective of things based off new information, if needed. But how can anyone do that when people in my literal class don’t even know how to spell middle school level words?! I don’t know. It’s looking bad.

I don’t want to be a doomer, but I feel doomed. I’m worried about the future.
