I think it’s so funny and ironic that my parents who both come from what’s considered a third world country came to the US years ago and said they started their family here for the purpose of giving their kids a better life. Typical noble reason lots of people’s parents move out here.
I’ve noticed over the past several years (especially after 2020) that companies have been outsourcing more and more and now it’s gotten to a point that people who are my age, but from my parents home country are the ones getting hired for the exact same jobs I’m struggling to even get an interview for.
I’m not mad at any of them, don’t get me wrong. They’re just doing what lots of people over there have always dreamt of doing.
I’ve listened in on all the discussions about why this is going on and it really just comes down to cheaper labor. They pay for overseas workers who will do the same job, but for cheaper pay.
But from what I also know from talking to these same workers who are working for cheaper pay, they don’t see it as cheaper pay. When you do the conversion rate from USD to their currency, it’s massive. To them, they’re being paid loads and loads of money, but in the eyes of someone from the US, it looks bad because it looks like pocket change.
I see that the same people who are my age, but living back in my parents home country living well because of their remote jobs. And I also see people who were brought over here from that country also living very well because the company takes care of them (I’m guessing with the condition that their pay is lower).
And then there’s me, struggling to get any job outside of seasonal retail. I went to college, did well, and here I am.
I’m starting to think my parents should’ve just birthed me back in their home country. Maybe I would’ve been living a better life by now had we all just stayed there.
Disclaimer: this is my first time using this website and I just needed a quick place to get things off my chest. I’d love to say this to a buddy over a smoke break, but I have none (because I don’t have a job). Hats off to everyone here. I don’t intend to use this site again, but it was nice.
