Too bad this Reddit discussion was locked after only two replies "I've used computers since the mid-90s; never had a problem figuring out how to do stuff, how to customize stuff. Even when software became pushy I could always figure out a way to make the annoyances go away. Lately, I feel I've lost the battle. My devices do whatever they want now. No matter what I try to tell them to do, they have a mind of their own. They restart and update when they want. They install things without my permission. Notifications pop up even if I disable them. It's a struggle to do simple stuff like search for a file, find a bookmark, change a setting even though I did this stuff as a kid without two thoughts in 1995. My mind isn't gone yet; every day or two my software updates itself, jacks up all the menus and buries things I need under loads of new "features" all having to do with shitty AI assistants. My passwords never work even though I have them saved in a password manager. My PC still demands I "finish setting up" even though I've owned it for 2 years. Nothing is easy or intuitive anymore. This stuff has a mind of its own and I'm ready to concede I've lost the battle."
And this reply is spot on "On one hand I think it's by design and on the other I think it's because everything is fucked now and nothing works because NOTHING IS WORKING IN THIS WORLD."
I want to repeat that
"I think it's because everything is fucked now and nothing works because NOTHING IS WORKING IN THIS WORLD."
