so im a HS junior and I have to start thinking of colleges and my parents are divorced and they live in two different States. My mom lost custody of us to my abusive dad (Ik tysm American justice system) my mom has stage 5 kidney failure and lives with my uncle bc she cant afford a house.
I have two options basically for like college I can go to this nice school in my dads sate that is cheap and gives me a quality education but I can't take care of mt sick mother. Or I go to a community college in my moms state live with my uncle and become my mothers paid (by the state) caretaker but I don't get as good as an education and would miss out on opportunities in my field (I wanna go into social work btw) :)
you still have time to learn about more options!! its sucks that youre going though this situation right now, i cant understand how hard this must be for you. I would recomend talking to a guidence counsillor if you have one available to you!! you still have a year to figure things out, id look into taking a gap year if thats something you think youd be interested on, you learn a lot about yourself and would be able to take care of your mom, but also you have to put best interest first sometimes, be careful if you do end up going to uni in ur dads state dont keep yourself in an unsafe environment if you have other options! taking a gap year could give you time to take care of your mom and make some money for uni and if you need it to bump up any grades and get a scholarship for school! it could be something thats worth looking into! hope everything works out for u :)) Clare 8 hours ago
