HIGHSCHOOL SWEETHEARTS MY ASS

HIGHSCHOOL SWEETHEARTS MY ASS

I am not one to give love advice over here, especially judging that I'm young af in comparison to other people probably reading on this platform.
For context, I am writing this in the middle of summer break after my first highschool year. (I study pretty far from home, two cities away) I have three friends, one is my deskmate and much closer than the other two, so when I started developing a small crush on a guy in our class she was obviously the first and only one to find out about it. It was around october when she started encouraging me to talk to him (which I didn't and didn't want to), but in one class trip she didn't come to, he initiated a conversation and since then we started talking. Not to mention I obviously fucking texted first one random night and we got closer since.
Me and supposed guy would sometimes sit together in class, come to school together, stay o calls for EIGHT HOURS. I know some of you might say "It's just normal friendly stuff" I quite made my intentions clear from the start, hinting at them very often. But you don't give a girl a flower right before Valentine's (it was on a saturday and he made it obvious that was why he gifted it to me) just in a friendly way. You don't carry her bridal style on y'all way home after classes 'for fun', you don't receive a poem and your favorite candy bar on your birthday and PROCEEI TO HUG HER on your birthday. Those things are so obviously not friendly.
Time passes and we stay friends, I try to ghost him a second time in the last week of school but we end up hanging out on the last day, when you almost miss your bus we both run like idiots and before you leave we hug so tight we squeeze the air out of each other's lungs. Very friend right??
My birthday was a few weeks ago and I went to said city where I study JUST to hang out with him. Poetically enough, he gifts me a drawing he made and my favorite candy bar and we go hang around in the park we often did during the school year. He lets me lean against his shoulder, before he leaves I kiss him on the cheek and he smiles. Nothing more. Friendly, VERY friendly.
The same evening (the night before my birthday) he texts that we need to talk and we do. He tells me that he doesn't like me that way and I tell him it's fine and we stay friends supposedly.
The next morning when I had to return home my eyes were SO PUFFY from crying for HOURS while texting him bc it was a fucking shocker to find out we did so much and he didn't like me.
On my birthday, in the evening, I send him the biggest paragraph of my life, telling him that he was practically an asshole for what he did and an absolute jerk for how he led me on for so long (9 months) and he just accepts that it's true and apologizes again and again (not for what he did, but for how I feel). I told him I'm still mad and I won't forgive him and it's best if we don't talk over the summer and maybe start things over when school starts. I absolutely loathe this guy now, it's like he did a 360, bc that night I asked him "You told me you hate leading people on, why did you fucking do all that with me then?" or sth along the lines and I am hit with a halfassed apology and explanation that to him those things were just friendly (after telling me he knew I liked him for the past 4 months).
I know this is a lot of information to digest, but I just have a few questions: Is this guy an asshole? Was he one all along? Was he enjoying my attebtion this badly, judging he never had a girlfriend before? It just makes me feel like there was nothing to like about him after we became friends, all he had was an (arguably) handsome face according to my usual type. Am I in the wrong if I ghost him for the rest of highschool (3 years)?

IDK. Sounds like you could've said something before going to the major city with him. Kinda put him in a tough spot. Maybe he should've read your mind like women and girls tend to expect and set healthier boundaries too though.

To me it reads like bro can't read your mind and was just trying to be nice and acknowledge the trip you made to see him. Then it probably hit him what's going on and he legitimately just wanted to be friends. IDK, maybe there's more going on but if there isn't there wasn't enough talking. Less telepathetic communication and more using your words.

anal sex in parochial school was sort of tacit, like weeping in the shower after

To the people telling me he was in a tough situation just know that he explicitly admitted that he had known I liked him for the past four months. Even besides that, it's a bit self centered to ruin someone's birthday just to get something off your own chest and act like it won't affect them and saying some hollow apologies
