Unnecessary Company BS

FFS, I only have one service warranty contract for HVAC because it's a heat pump where the one unit handles heating and cooling. I pay these fuckers $200/yr for this contract only because of this fact, that the contract says holders will get 1st priority for service. This area is pretty mild, but from Dec to Feb there can be sometimes a spell of below freezing weather in the teens that can last for a week or more. If your heating fails you can get busted water pipes unless you use electric heaters which are like burning paper money to keep the house warm enough to not bust pipes with the amount of electricity they use. Or run the gas no vent fireplace popular now in homes that vent fumes which contrary to what the manufactures say they do make into the living space and that's not healthy. Turning the faucets on to a drip may help a little as well. The $200/yr is a lot, but it's viewed as an insurance policy; busted water pipes in a home that sits on a slab foundation with no crawl space to access pipes can cost up to $4K depending on the location, and that doesn't include fixing the access damage to the floors and/or walls to get to the pipes.

So lately as of the past few years this company has been late in scheduling the 2 service checks included in the contract so now my summer service for last year was all the way at the end of Aug, and I stop using air (it's on, but the set temp is 78 where it stays all summer) because I'm cold natured around Labor Day because ceiling fans are cooling enough. They put chemicals in to clean for algae in summer service and last year the chemical stank all winter because it didn't get distributed/used up properly like it should have been through the summer months circulating with air condition use, so when the heating which uses the air conditioning in winter to defrost the system's pipes during freezing weather there was a smell. This year I proactively call these fuckers end of July to get a 1st week in Aug (the 2 service checks are spaced every 6mos) service call for summer check. So I'm all set I think, but no these bastards just sent a text to my cell reminding me of the appointment, but if I had not read it carefully I would have missed the part that required me to send them a text back to reconfirm the appointment so it could have possibly been canceled. This is all unnecessary bullshit on their part BTW because they always call to make sure you are home when the tech heads your way, so it's not like they will waste a trip, or a money making appointment because they've got a long waitlist of people wanting sooner appointments they will use. I know about the waitlist because I asked to be put on it for July scheduling and it was full up, so I'll be getting my scheduled appointment in this week which I could have lost because of their unnecessary bullshit text.
