Grandma's cooking

I know an Ethiopian family with a grandma and many grandkids. Whenever she cooks doro wat, the smell travels far. It reminds me of my grandma's Indian chicken curry with potatoes.
I know another friendly Jamaican family that keeps calling me Catherine. The have the most amazing barbecues. That too is a bunch of grandmas, aunties etc. grilling and cooking. In the barbeque, the serve delicious Jerk chicken made from scratch, some kind of rice dish, corn and salad. I love it.

I wish my grandma were around. I then would not have to work so hard to cook and do meal prep (joke)

Here's a white person version. Around the 1940s-1960s there was this god awful dessert that was popular. Green gelatin and fucking mayonayse with fruit. It is as vomit inducing as it sounds. Yet, every fucking Christmas they made it.

I was friends with some white American grandmas when I was growing up. They brought nice stuff like lemon squares etc. to the potluck. I never saw green gelatin or fruit mayonnaise from 80 year old grandmas.
