Okay, I know this is a bit late, but all this hp fan crap is everywhere. I HATE the Harry Potter series. I am an intelligent teenage girl and a hardcore fantasy reader, I've read hundreds of books, modern and classic, and Harry Potter is pretty poor in comparison to those others. I've seen this problem a few times actually. Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, whatever, they all have one element that appeals to your normal unintelligent and emotionally-horny little teenager (often girl). In HP, I believe it's how Harry Potter, a geeky, unimpressive, and frankly annoying boy discovers magical powers within himself. I would respect the whole "I'm secretly special" thing, I get that. But this goes a step further. Potter basically gives the Dudley's the magical equivalent of a big "FUCK YOU". I get that, his foster parents are awful, but I don't think that's it. I think teenagers are drawn to this in a sort of "screw my parents, they're mean and evil and unimportant, I'm way more special than they are, I never want to talk to them again, I hate them!" Sounds like the classic angsty teenager, am I right? Well, so, these angsty teenagers like this rebellious book so they pass it around to their friends, who never read otherwise, and suddenly it becomes popular because no one has ever read anything remotely good. That's not even the beginning though. There are so many ridiculous and just mind-numbingly stupid aspects to this series. For heaven's sake, she uses time travel! Rowling is a thousand miles away from being able to pull off time travel in any novel. Good God! Can't people see how stupid it is? The characters are flat and insipid, the plot line is recycled in each book. It makes me want to punch one of the stupid fans. Better yet, I want to tie him to a chair and make him read something by a Brandon Sanderson or Eoin Colfer. GOD DAMMIT.Posted 3 weeks ago
